A unique story combining ghostly hauntings, friendship and history
Trouble is haunting Cassidy Blake… even more than usual.
She (plus her ghost best friend, Jacob) are in Paris, where Cass’s parents are filming their TV show about the world’s most haunted cities.
Sure, it’s fun eating croissants and seeing the Eiffel Tower, but there’s true ghostly danger lurking beneath Paris, in the creepy underground Catacombs.
When Cass accidently awakens a frighteningly strong spirit, she must rely on her still-growing skills as a ghosthunter – and turn to friends both old and new to help her unravel a mystery. But time is running out, and the spirit is only growing stronger.
And if Cass fails, the force she’s unleashed could haunt the city forever.
Thanks to Mary at Scholastic UK for my ARC of 'Tunnel of Bones' by Victoria Schwab, the 2nd book in her Cassidy Blake series, and follow-up to City of Ghosts.
For me, this book is a real departure from my usual Crime Fiction reads, but when asked by Scholastic if I would like a review copy , and on reading the blurb, I thought I would give this a try.
Primarily this is young adult fiction, but I found it really quite engaging and a read I really did appreciate.
Cassie and her Ghost friend Jacob are in Paris, helping Cassie's, Ghost investigating parents, film an episode of their Ghost hunting TV show in the Catacombs below Paris. Whilst in the deep, dark Catacombs, Cassie unwittingly unleashes a powerful Poltergeist on Paris.
Calling on help from an old friend Lara and new friend in Adele, and of course Jacob, Cassie races against time to capture this angry entity before it becomes all to powerful.
An absolute joy to read, both fun and accessible, there are spooks and scares a plenty to keep any young adult or old ghoul happy and entertained.
The characters are extremely likeable and the tension between Cassie and Jacob, feels real and both perfect for the story as Cassie goes against everything Jacob says in her hunt for Ghosts.
The story moves around Paris, haunting and eerie locations are written superbly, this book is an absolute Gem.
Paced to keep even the less attentive interested, I was pleasantly surprised by my first look into YA reading. It wont be the last, I'll be picking up a copy of 'City of Ghosts' soon and will be following Cassie's adventures with great interest.
